    Anyone used Zicam???

Anyone heard of Zicam - non liquid nasal gel. They are swabs to use around your inside nose and friends of mine swear by them before they go on a flight. They say it seems to keep away the infections you frequently pick up from the plane. They have left some for me to try on my flight next week and they are available at Walmarts. Be interesting to see if anyone else has used them.

All the time, Its Homepathic. I swear by it and have used the various cold and coughs products over the years. I have some of those cotton wands in the bathroom pre loaded for your nasal passage but they are generally for blocked noses and make your nose run so not sure it would be what you want on the plane but let us know

It also comes in a non drip bottle like this which claims to shorten the length of a colds and reieve sore throats, sneezing, congestion etc etc. It works for me.

I use a herbal spray, which certainly helps clear my sinuses before the flight, and claims to be able to reduce infection rates - various aromatic oils are used.

You can reduce your chance of infection by sitting nearer the front of the plane where there are higher levels of circulating air. Nothing can really protect you from picking up an infection, short of wearing a surgical mask - but hey - wouldn't that look stupid!

Your immune system is important here, so anything you can do to maintain it in tip-top condition will help.

This is advice we give our cancer patients when they travel, as their immune system is 'shot' for a while after they have finished chemo

I use Cold FX myself. Capsules that boost your immune system.

Thank you for the advice Chris. I take echinacea every 14 days and then 14 days off which seems to work. I always sit at the front of the aircraft whenever possible, and on our many flights to the Far East it is quite usual for us to see a couple of folks with surgical masks on[clap]. I would be a bit embarrassed but the Asians don't seem to bother like we do.[msnembarrased]

People used to walk around the streets of Hong King with them on when I lived there. Mind you some of the smells and sights you would need them to cover your whole face!
