    Moon

I've had this round it looks as thogh it could be unusual-I bet it's far better watching it in Florida though![msnsad]

DON'T FORGET TO MARK YOUR CALENDAR FOR THE NIGHT OF 26 AUG........

    >

    >

    >Two moons on 27 August

    >27th Aug the day the Whole World is waiting for...

    >Planet Mars will be the brightest in the

    >night sky starting August. It will look as

    >large as the full moon to the naked eye.

    >This will culminate on Aug 27 when Mars

    >comes within 34.65M miles of earth.

    >Be sure to watch the sky on Aug. 27 12:30 am.

    >It will look like the earth has 2 moons. The next

    >time Mars will come this close is in 2287.

    >Share this with your friends as NO ONE

    >ALIVE TODAY will ever see it again.

This email is sent around time and time again. Every time one of the planets happens to be near us it does appear brighter than usual, and often as bright as the moon. But the fact is, it looks no larger than usual so is not particularly spectacular. The emails that come round make it sound like the planet in question will appear as big as the moon, and this is not at all true (pity as would look great!)

I'd imagine that if Mars appeared in the sky, the same size as the moon, we'd have a tidal problem...[msnscared]

The Eclipse was a big event here in the USA, as it's not often you get a total eclipse. I believe it wasn't visible from the UK.
