Buying Sky etc

We have virgin media with all channels,broadband and phone - but miss sky one [prison break especially] and are thinking of getting a Sky plus box etc - started wading through the internet to find out best price and what channels I need, and now have a headache -anyone care to sift through, and tell me the best deal, and all that?

I don't think there are any deals to be had. You choose what package you want (family, sports, movies etc) and pay the price that Sky is asking.

If all you are missing is Sky 1 then you should be able to pick up the basic family package for around 20 pound - plus the cost of installation of course.

Another option may be to keep virgin and download the sky one programs that you miss via a bit-torrent site. Or wait for the box set to come out [msneek]

Thanks Kenny - I think I have just managed to sort it- my new neighbour says if he recommends me we both get discount and M & S vouchers -want Sky + HD Box and it makes a diff of £100 + -so I will do that - thanks anyway- incidentally there are Sky Plus HD boxes [retail £299] on E-bay by a sky authorised fitter for £169!!

just a thought tho in my experience the cable broadband was way better than through the phone line.

We changed over from Virgin to Sky, last week, for the same reason. Prisonbreak changing to sky one, after already losing Lost and 24 was the final straw for my husband.
However we kept our Virgin phone and broadband and only changed the tv.
In the end our monthly payments worked out roughly the same apart from the one off payment of £99 for the sky+ box.

We changed from ordinary Sky to Sky + a couple of weeks ago and were very happy, especially since with one touch of a button I set it to record the whole series of Prison Break, ensuring that I didn't miss a minute of Wentworth Miller[bowwave]

However, with one thing and another I missed last Mondays episode. Don't panic !!! Sky plus will have recorded it for me, which it did, but unfortunately when I watched the missed episode the picture was terrible and it kept freezing and getting all lines/blocks over the screen. Not a happy bunny [msncry]. Eventually it got so bad that it just stopped working and said that we weren't receiving a signal. Rang sky, said they would send an engineer today !!

This morning, we were trying to get a little lie in (Not much chance with two children under 6) when the Sky Engineer turned up at 8 a.m. [msnscared]

However, a Happy ending, the Engineer fixed our Sky (Dodgy Dish!) and I told him that Prison Break was my favourite and that last weeks episode was ruined. He confessed that he was also a fan and had the theme tune as his ring tone on his mobile, so he very kindly sent it to my phone for me.

Now whenever anyone rings me, I will be reminded of Wentworth [clap]

What can I say -Prison Break and 24 -my fave progs
We have DVD boxed sets of them, and just finished 24 series 6 - Also have watched the shield and the Unit -you'll like those if you like 24.
