    Blocked Sinus

My 18 year old daughter has come home today feeling poorly, she has blocked sinus.

The thing is she is flying to Oslo on Saturday, will she have trouble with the pressure if they are still blocked.

This is going to be her first time flying on her own and I am now worried about it.

get her menthol and eucolyptos oil steam inhalation, it will help brilliantly to unblock her ears/nose, head over a bowl a couple of times before she leaves,
not nice, hope she manages to enjoy herself

Sally, although it won't help with the sinus problem tell Rachel to take some sweets to suck on take off and landing. I have problems with ear popping always and this is the only things that helps.

Try sudafed, my husband has sinus problems when we fly, or sometimes has a problem without flying, he normally takes sudafed. A few years ago he had blocked sinus and ever since periodicly he gets it again. The steaming is good as well, we normally have some menthol cystals they are quite good.

Sally I would get her to the GP, I have seen people with blocked sinus burst their eardrums[msnsad]

Now don't laugh at this but once on board ask the crew for 2 plastic cups with two paper towels inside the cups with boiling water on them, put each cup over each ear LOL I know but its works to equal the pressure[msnwink] Do this for both the take off and landing[msnwink]

I agree 100% with Julie. It really isn't worth taking the chance and there's still time to get her to the Doc before Saturday.

The tip about the hot water in a cup is correct. I've not used it for take off but if you have ear pain on descent then this relieves the pain and is so soothing.

    Thank you for your tips.

She is in bed and generally feeling unwell along with the blocked sinus. I have given her sudofed and will get her to do the steam inhalation tomorrow, I will also get her to the doctors.

Julie lol, thanks for the tip about the cups over the ears but I can't see her doing this even if it did help[msnsmile2]

Sharon beat me to it. I'm a pilot, and find Sudafed works well for most sinus problems.

Sorry Jeff, but my husband also called Jeff has had problems like this and my son also. Coming back from the US a few years ago my son was just 8 years old and screamed and screamed it was awful. The hostess's came to him with a plastic cup with a paper towel in it. They had poored some carvol over the paper towel, he had to inhale, unfortunatley with a screaming child it was very difficult. The pain must of been terrific and was told by my doctor that his eardrum could have burst.

So i agree really you should see a doctor, just to make sure it is sinus problems and you have done everything you can to eleviate the problem before flying.

    Good luck and happy flying
