You unequivocally gave the reason for anorak’s flight being cancelled as being not full;
Read my post carefully. I said it is easier to consolidate multiple shorthaul flights than single longhaul flights (which is true). Then I go on to say that Anorak's flight has clearly been consolidated with a later flight (which is true). Whether one is the cause of the other, no-one here can say, and I didn't say it.

quote:when you don’t even know her dates
Neither do you, but you felt able to tell Anorak that BA2486 doesn't operate in Dec from 1st - 28th

quote:Some of those 28 re-scheduled flights could have had a very high load factor. The frequent flyer forums are full of threads about routes with high load factors having flights cancelled; the AA MAN - BOS route I mentioned above is but one example - and I have that personally from the 'horse's mouth'.
Yes they could, but I'm willing to bet BA would not cancel 28 highly loaded flights without a very extreme (and therefore very unusual) reason. Whether you agree or not, poor load factors are the most likely explanation of these cancellations.

quote:My point was that there a multitude of reasons why BA would re-schedule flights and that is up to the Operations Manager. I believe that is not the remit of your organisation.
Correct, I never said otherwise

quote:Your explanation was a possibility, you might even believe it a probability, but it ain’t a certainty – and it was that certainty in your remarks I was questioning
It is a probability - the number one reason for cancelling flights 4 months in advance is that the seats are not selling. Again, I never said it was a certainty, but the most likely explanation of these cancellations is poor load factors.

quote:I also wonder why you mentioned that it costs exactly the same for short haul aircraft to take off from Heathrow as long haul aircraft- which is true(£135 I believe) but not relevant
I mentioned this because Anorak questioned "Why would BA bother cancelling such a cheap flight to operate?" and referring to them as "relatively local flights". I merely pointed out that the cost of operating a flight has very little to do with the distance it is travelling, and is unlikely to be much of a factor in any cancellation decision.
However, clearly ([msnwink]) none of us know the real reasons for any flight cancellations, so perhaps we should end this discussion
