Thread: have lost our faithful old dog

  1. #21
We know how you feel we had to put our poodle down he was 15 years old and in dog years old, But we had many happy times with him thought of getting another one but we go away a lot and not fair as they look at you and look so sad when you start packing .
Our dog was like yours kept passing out it was his heart and been on tablets but that was not enough so we had to do it in all kindness .
Have a lovely holiday when you go .

    [grouphug]For you Leisa[grouphug]
You did the kindest thing for poor Arnie. Treasure the good times you have had with him. Time does heal eventually.

So very sorry to read of your loss Liesa, but you can at least take comfort in the fact that Arnie loved you all as a family and that you gave him a wonderful life.

    thankyou all xx

its just so quiet and empty here without him, his bed and food/water bowl is still down, its not right to chuck them out....... yet, still cant believe hes gone, he is a whippet/lurcher/staffordshire bull terrier, he ran even up to the weekend 40mph round the garden, there were absolutely no signs this was coming, he seemed fine during the day yesterday, all happened so quickly, 4.45pm, dead by 6pm, i still cannot believe it, it was so horrible to watch and im just glad it didnt happen when he was in his bed alone during the night, i was here with Lauren (only 11)so sudden,
we will always remember him, he was so special to us..........not just a dog but my faithful old friend well all of ours but more mine as he was always with me...

Sorry to hear your news Liesa, it is hard to believe he has gone. At least he was not suffering, as you said he was running round the garden at the weekend. Just remember all the good times with him.

    Oh Leisa
I have been through exactly the same emotions and I have a large painting of Trina my cocker spaniel hung up on the landing so everytime I go upstairs I think about her. Like you it was the kindest thing for me to let go of her she too was 14 and had cancer and was by then blind. Now 16 yes 16 years latter I still think of her and often smile when I look at the painting. Now its a happy smile remembering the good times and things she did. I never did get another dog but when my mum and dad went through the same thing they did and it worked for them and eased the pain - it was the first time I had ever seen my dad cry. [grouphug]

    Thinking of you

So very sorry to hear your news Liesa, I know how you feel as we lost our 13 year old beardie (Daisy) last June. It was not as sudden as your loss but it was very quick. I always knew that we would have another dog but initially decided we would wait until after Christmas. That soon changed however, as the house was so empty without her. We were lucky to get our Italian Spinone puppy (Lily) in the August, just after our stay at the villa. Lily will never, ever replace Daisy, but she has made it much easier and its lovely to have a faithful friend again. I still think about Daisy but now I think of all the joy she brought to our family, not about the end.

You gave Arnie 14 very happy years[msnsmile], lots of poor dogs, unfortunately, do not have any happiness in their lives. Try to think of all the pleasure you had with Arnie in your family.[grouphug]

My hear goes out to you Liesa. We went through exactly the same thing when our first dog died aged 16. We had had him since he was about 5 weeks old. Some B*****d had thrown him out of a car window late at night. Luckily someone saw him and rescued him, and the rest is history. My Son was born when "Fraz" was 6 years old. The hardest thing is telling a 10 year old that their best friend has died. But it does get easier. I promise[grouphug]
