Thread: Southern Dunes

I am biased too, it's so nice to have a wander round to the clubhouse for the famous Sunday buffet breakfast. Walmart on the doorstep for shopping. Manny's for ribs.

Great place to stay, you will love it Graham

We are on Tower Lake, just backing on to Southern Dunes, and while I haven't stayed on SD, I can assure you that it isn't a long drive to the attractions. The 27 and I4 take you directly to wherever you want to go, and we have never had any delays.

As already said, it is a lovely area, with absolutely everything you need within a short drive, not least of which is Mannys Chophouse!

If you like the villa that you are looking at, then don;t be concerned about anything else. SD is a beautiful community, and one that you will probably want to come back to again and again.

    Have a fantastic holiday!

We stayed at Souther Dunnes for our very first trip to Orlando many years ago and I would say that if this is your first trip to Orlando then it may be to far out for you, I think your own instinct tells you this, as everyone else has said the estate itself is really nice and I would have no hestiation about staying there in the future as we have stayed on H27 for future visit, but for 1st timers when you are travelling to the parks each day it does seem far.

Have a good trip wherever you decide to stay.

When you are thinking about distance from the parks, bear in mind travelling time rather than miles. Travelling from Southern Dunes to the parks is an easy drive, dual carriageway all the way, with 3 lanes in each direction (the roads have recently been improved) and a 65 mph speed limit most of the way. To my mind, it's a lot nicer than battling with the traffic on the 192.

Obviously, travelling time from any community can vary according to the time of day. But I don't think distance from the parks should put you off Southern Dunes.

Last time we were over we played Golf at Southern Dunes and thought it would be a great place to stay - so much so that we have rented a villa there for later this month. It really is no distance to any of the theme parks and a really easy drive. The golf course is fantastic and the clubhouse excellent - great to hear about Friday evenings and looking forward to trying the Sunday Brunch!

    Hi Graham
we also stayed at SD on our first trip to FL, it is a bit further out but its no more difficult to get to than any of the closer resorts. I would certainly stay there again and that is an unbiased opinion, it is a lovely place.

I hope you have a great holiday Paul, Southern Dunes is a great place to stay and I know you will not be disappointed.

Don't forget to visit the famous Mannys only 5 minutes drive away.

We're just on our way out now for the Sunday brunch and guess where we're going for dinner tonight? Too easy!!
Second time since we arrived on Wednesday night when we went for the BOGOF fajitas.
Going to try to have a sweet tonight but doubt thatI'll manage it!

Not sure whether you were aware Christine, The club house is now open on Friday evenings between 5-8pm for Happy Hour and they are serving food between these hours.

I had heard a rumour, but didn't like to post the information in case it wasn't accurate!
Will be checking it out for myself next month - might even have a glass of wine (or two) with my meal as I can walk home from there!![clap][clap]

    Well it's definitely still on!
Friday evenings, the clubhouse is open until 8 p.m. with happy hour (or two!) from 6 - 8p.m.
We went this evening and had fish and chips followed by German chocolate cake.
Unfortunately I was the designated driver, so couldn't take advantage of the 2 for 1 drinks.
