As I only paid $581 for this lot and most of it was for all three of us, and half will stay here until Christmas, I am well within my duty free limit

we were also there for the 4th july sale, got loads of bargins put it this way we went with 4 cases and came back with 7, lucky that there was no one on duty at customs when we returned. cant belive the prices there, everything 1/2 price to here in england eg timberland boots $49.
in macys you dont have to get a discount card, we were just asked where we were from and they gave us the discount, but the discount does not include, perfumes, or aftershaves, bought these at the airport.

If you ever get the chance to go to the Thanks Giving day sales (The day after thanks Giving) then do so. However the key to a good bargain is to arrive as at opening time. Most of the stores offer a extra discount for the first 3-4 hours. We arrived at the Premium outlet at 4.30am with the kids in tow (they had not adjusted to the time difference) last year, spent 2-3 hours shopping and we were back in bed fast asleep before 8am. We got an extra 30-40% off the sale prices in some store but on average an extra 25% off sales prices.
Word of warning is that if you go after 9am or later not only will you miss the bargains but you will be also stuck in a very big queue to get in and out of the carpark.

So, just because you didn't 'see' any Customs officers, it certainly doesn't mean there weren't any.

As an Admin I have to say that we don't condone on this forum anyone doing anything illegal, whether it's getting more than your duty free allowance through Customs or anything else that's not legal.

As Blott says it's never worth taking a chance with customs but with such great bargains you can still shop within your limit (when will they ever increase it?) and still come back with bulging cases.

My husband (like most men) hates shopping so I usually only get him to stores under the pretext of getting stuff for the villas. I have to make do with what I can grab at the same time. He did actually buy himself a Timberland coat in the Thanksgiving sales (total shock). Neil and Cathy you also get bargains later that day too. When we got to the till they took another 30% off, so he paid the equivalent of £36!! All I got was Liz Claiborne jeans, buy one get one free for £18 and 3 pairs of socks [msnsad]

Great tip about the Macy's card. Thanks, knew one of the stores had one but couldn't remember which!

Thanks for the good wishes Killian. We are travelling on Monday next to Milwaukee and Greenbay in Wisconsin to visit relatives and then back to Chicago to a family wedding in the Four Seasons hotel on the Saturday . With all the travelling and socialising there will be little time for sightseeing or shopping. this trip I dont think the customs men in Dublin will have anything to get their hankies in a twist for. Enjoy your trip to California ,Ive never got there yet but I would love to visit sometime . I will have to get myself a job where I travel the world .

We always bring about half back, and leave healf, so that I have new stuff to wear the next time we are out.

I always make sure my bargains are worth the while, and leaving some stuff here helps out a lot.

I am in Florida at the moment and I have done the Bealls tax free and the sale and for three days (last one tomorrow Sun) the things that have 50 and 70% off also have a further 40% off so guss where I have been today, I even founf one in Rotunda yeah called in at Osceola Mall today, if you spend $50 dollars they give you a $10 voucher so I will get to spend those before I come home.

Bye for now, keeping notes for my trip reports.
