I've read on here in the past about a pen looking device which you can get in Walgreens, if you dab it on the bites it stops the itch.

toothpaste is good especialy those with Bicarbonate of soda

also great on Jellyfish stings a Divers tip

Piriton should hopefully reduce the itchiness

I am one of the few who rarelly gets bit, but my wife suffers big time

We bought this amazing cream once in Langkawi Malaysia, where she got some monster ugly bites

it was called something like mopiko (I used to call it more pickle), but to this day it has been the best thing she has ever used

we still have a small tube left, not sure if you can get it anywhere else

Only ever been bitten by fire ants in Florida (but everything else in other counties) and that was partly my own fault for standing on one of their nests - won't make that mistake again!

We bought some small sachets of bite sting stuff (a bit like small individual wet wipes) which you put on the bites and leave for 24 hours which work although I can't remember what they were called. Just ask at any supermarket pharmacy and they'll probably know.

I don't really have a problem with fire ant bites...I've been bitten by different ants so much over the years I think you build up an immunity..the bite of a fireant does hurt more than any other ant I've come across...and their bite leaves like a small freckle like scar....to be bite by a lot at one time must be nasty..

Sudocream does wonders. As some of you would know its superb for nappy rash but I have used it on insect bites, scalds etc and it not only soothes but heals very quickly. It stops itchiness and soreness. Always carry a small pot when I go over as I haven't seen any over there.

Try taking 1 vitamin b tablet everyday for 1 week before you go and each day you are over in Florida. It comes out in your sweat/pores and the insects don't like the smell or taste so they go looking for the next person. I always got bitten before someone let me into the secret. Worked for me in the Dominican Republic & in Florida. The tablets can be bought at Tesco for about 45p for 3 week supply - so cheap enough.

I also use Avon Skin So Soft and heed the good advice of keeping off grass morning and evening and when it is wet.

If they do get you then take a small can of Jungle Formula Bite & Sting Relief - £3 a can at Matalan. It stops the itching for a couple of hours. There is nothing worse than an itchy bite (or 40).Don't put it in your hand luggage or the nice people at check in will confiscate it from you [msnscared]
