    Fort Myers

Hi, we are spending a week at Fort Myers in June, we have never been before and are looking for suggestions of things to do when were not on the beach. Does anybody know of any boat trips etc? We were planning on a day trip to the everglades would this be possible or is it too far? My brother will be 21 whilst we are there, any recommendations for good restaurants would be appreciated!
    Thanks, Rachel

    Hi Rachel

You can easily reach the Everglades from Fort Myers and try the boat trip through the Evergaldes. Whilst there you can visit the Indian villages.

A visit to the Gulf Coast can be as relaxing or busy as you want it to be.There are plenty of things to see and do when you are there. Try searching through this site and I'm sure many owners, in the immediate Fort Myers area will advise additional places. Here are a few websites that I know of and have visited:

    www.shellfactory.com
    www.sarasotajunglegardens.com
    www.babcockwilderness.com

You could also go to the Ringling Museum in Sarasota or visit Busch Gardens. The Gulf Coast beaches are beautiful and you will be spoilt for choice. If Fort Myers beaches are too crowded for you try a little further up at Boca Grand or Englewood. There are too many boat hire companies to mention but do a search and see what is out there.

Hope you have a wonderful trip.

Lovers Key is a State Park just south of Fort Myers and of course THE thing to do in the City of Palms (that's Fort Myers) is to visit the Edison home. Certainly when we did the trip a few years ago you can't just wander around but go in a group tour, it is quite fascinating to find out just what Edison did invent.

Lots of things to do in the area. Sanibel and Captiva islands are on the doorstep and shouldn't be missed. Go south to Naples and the Everglades or just spend time on the beach.

Busch Gardens is great but it's a bit far for an easy day out.

The Ding Darling Nature Reserve is a good place go.
