On my booking, I was informed that final balance payment would be taken on 12/07/07. I understand this is not an exact date, but the balance was taken from my account on 27/06/07.

Must depend when they process, cos mine was taken after due date.
sounds a bit unusual? are you talking about a tour operator rather than an individual home owner?[msnembarrased]

This is about car hire not villa balance. I presume it was booked through the OV site.

The date we give is the earliest date (usually the balance goes within 2 weeks after that date). The payament is taken manually by accounts, when then run weekly reports. If your balance has been taken too early, this is very unusual (and an error on our suppliers part). If you would like the balance refunded and re-taken at the proper time, feel free to email us at info@uscarhire.co.uk with your order number so I can arrange this with our suppliers.
Just an update - Roger has explained the situation to me privately.
This was an error by the supplier, but no harm no foul, as I had funds in my account.
