America use a different TV setting to here in Europe so it may not work. Also bear in mind you can only bring £145 worth of goods per person duty free.

On various visits we've bought a camcorder (from walmart in case we need to return it (Asda))-MP3 players, and a digital camera-we have never had any problems with any of these.

You also have a step down power converter as they run on 210 volts... we run on 110. You can pick these up from places like Maplins etc... Things like Sony PSP and Nintendo DS run fine but you'll have to pick up a thrid party charger from the UK when you get back. These are no more than £10 and you can get them from places like "Game".

Laptop... again... you'll need a stepdown power converter.

    Good luck [msnwink]

Be careful of the shops you see along the 192. I brought a camera last year (which i'm very pleased with) but i'm not sure I got the bargain I was hoping for. It might be worth doing you research before you go, then at least you'll have an idea of prices etc.

That's good advice. Don't assume that everything is cheaper even with the present favourable exchange rate. Given the additional taxes and some of the problems mentioned above, it frequently makes sense to buy here.

Also be aware that you are almost certainly exceeding the customs limit when you buy anything significant.

If you check the plug/charger for the power info and it says 100v-240v then all you need is a plug adapter (just to change the pin configuration from 2 to 3 pin) as it will be rated for use with the UK voltage.

If the power input is only rated at 100v/110v then as people have stated you will need a step down converter because of the voltage difference.
A lot of places sell them.
I've bought one today from Amazon which covers up to 45Watt items for £10 delivered. Depending on the power needs I've seen up to 300W rated ones for a little more.
