CD? is it an MP4 or Cd player. Are you trying to run a US item on 240v, if so check that it is compatible without a transformer.

as previously said MP4 / CD

    Mp4 is a video file

are you talking about an Mp3 player ,music files

in which case only issue there would be wrong voltage if plugged into the mains

    Carrie,

Can you tell us the name of the machine and model and we can probably work out what it does? (and why it's not functioning).

If it plays CDs and comes with a US power supply only it could be getting almost twice the required mains power here (which would explain the gobbledygook sound as the CD will be running erratically) and you run the risk of burning out the transformer in the power supply ![:O]
I would certainly recommend you don't run it from the UK mains until you find out what power it runs on!

If it has a power supply have a look for a label (or etching in the plastic casing). If it says something like 100v - 240v it is a "universal" power supply and should be OK on our mains but if it says 110v or 120v only then stop using it immediately and ask an electrical dealer if you can get a "universal unit" that would suit it.

If you need a universal unit there only cheap anyway. I bought my daughters DS there and just use the unit when it needs charging. I have never heard of a MP4[msnembarrased] I need to get more.

thanks for your replies, it is an MP$ player the cd is used to install it so that u can download music from the pc.
It is made augen and it looks like an ipod nano only smaller.
when my son inserts the cd into the pc hard drive it says it has an unrecognisable programme.
the guy in orlando said it would work in the uk

The cd is likely to contain just a driver file so the device is recognised by your PC in order to allow you to transfer music

Could try browsing the cd with explorer and may be a readme file or help file

you may also get lucky and find that if you plug it into your pc it will recognise it anyway and have a suitable driver(but I doubt it [msnsad]

You could search on google for a driver for the particular device/model

    Good Luck

I would "Google" the make and model of the player and look to see if there is a support section by the people that make it. As ccarcher already stated, the CD is a driver/software which can easily be downloaded from the web and installed to your player if the CD isn't being read by your PC.

    Hope this helps.
