I think it's only certain models of GHD that work, I have them here and tried them in the US but they were useless, they simply didn't get hot enough.

Came back in March and had no problems with our straightners. Travel plug - heated up in minutes, in fact quicker than in UK, don't know why. My two girls said they were better than the TWO pairs that we have bought in Florida. So I have just left them for the guests to use along with the hairdryers.

My friend took expensive straightners with us but they didn't work so we brought some cheepies and left them there. (And they worked as well as the expensive ones.
Have a nice holiday!

Both my daughter and I take GHD's. Both work but take longer to heat up and certainly don't get as hot as in the UK. My daughter did buy some straightners from Walamart a couple of years ago - can't remember the name of them but she said they were useless. She does have quite thick hair though that has a tendency to go wavy.

Our daughter Emma has 2 pairs of GHD Straighteners. A Black pair which take ages to heat up in Florida and her new pair which are Pink G.H.D's. These ones work perfectley in both UK and other countries including USA.
