BA ups long-haul fuel surcharge


British Airways (BA) is to increase its fuel surcharges on long haul flights once again, starting from next week.
Customers will pay an extra £3 on one-way long-haul trips, taking the surcharge to £33 for flights under nine hours and £38 for longer flights.

BA blamed the increase - its sixth in two years - on recent increases in the price of oil.

It added that the £8 fuel surcharge for one-way short-haul flights, £16 for a return, will remain unchanged.

The company said that while the decision was "regrettable", it expected to spend £2bn on fuel during the current financial year.

"The cost of fuel has risen significantly in recent weeks. Unfortunately, we have little choice but to pass on some of this extra cost to our customers," said commercial director Robert Boyle.

The increase will take effect from Wednesday 2 May.
