    New Passport Applications

Just a word of caution for people getting their first passports (including babies and children).

Just been told by the Post Office when i went in there to use their 'check and send' passport service that ALL new passport applicants now have to attend an interview. I found this hard to believe but she confirmed it with a document she had dated December 2009. In addition, they will take 6 weeks to be produced. She told me that if you do not hear anything within 2-3 weeks then you should call the passport office and they may be able to tell you when the interview is. The 6 weeks lead time includes going for interview which is why you should hear within 2-3 weeks.

I think i might have to accompany my 4 week old baby to his interview as i don't think he knows how to get to the passport office in Leeds, or how to board a bus, or walk, or talk!!!!!!!!! Crazy seeing as he already looks different to the photo for his passport application!!

We go in 5 weeks so i'll be on to them next week!!

It's only first time adults that need to attend not kids. Kids who had their own child passport and have reached adulthood do not need to attend either

You can now renew your passport on-line and it's easier and more reliable than check and send service at the post office. The last time I used this service the application was returned as it was incomplete.

The form is returned to you fully completed and all you need to do is sign and enclose the photographs. There is also a form to allow you to pay by credit card.

I've just renewed mine and the passport was back within 1 week of returning the form, the whole process took 2 weeks.

We were looking at our grandson's passport when he was with us in Florida at Christmas - he is almost two and a half and his passport was issued when he was 5 months it really is quite a joke to look at a photo of him at 5 months and then see what he looks like now. Really you could take any child who had their passport issued as a baby and who would know if it was the child in the photo?

They fingerprinted mine. Checked their retinas too (or whatever it is they do [msnwink]). Granted, they're older.
