My son and the cubs and scouts of hemel hempstead celebrated it yesterday. After a service in the park remembering St George they marched (more like ambled ) behind a lorry with a dragon on it to the Civic centre.

Happy St. Georges Day to you Cruella - you beat me to it. Was only just saying to husband that nobody had mentioned it on the forum. Even Google does not have a special heading - very poor!

Martin you can wear a red rose, fly the English flag or look on this site for ideas

I always find it odd that you'll see so much stuff to buy for St. Patrick's Day in America but there's nothing to even mention St. George's Day. Most Americans have no concept of it and I have always found that strange, especially around the Disney area where there are so many Brits staying and living.

My son and daughter in law had a hog roast last night - along with most of the village - to celebrate St Georges Day. It went down very well and they have decided that we do not make enought of our Saints day so they are going to do it every year.

In these days when there is a lot of talk of us as a nation losing our identity you would have thought that it would be the ideal excuse for us to fly the flag - literally.

How many people hit the streets - and the Guiness - on St. Patricks day yet don't even know when St. Georges day is. As sad as it is it would probably need the pubs to get involved for most of our beer swilling nation to show it any interest.

Its a british thing, we expect everybody else to set stuff up for us. That is whay we love the USA so much. Although we have had a full British Lamb roast diner, so its a start[msnwink]

I was reading an article today which was calling for the May day bank holiday to be replaced with St Geroges day. Personally i thought it was a great idea.
