Trying to book up-Problem

Our school holidays are staying the same next year, a week before Easter and a week after Easter, as you say each authority is different.

Just checked our local council (Leeds) and the kids break up on the 20 March 08 until 7 April 08.

"The way i understood was that the schools were fed up of the easter holiday varying in date by up to a month, eg next year good friday is March 21st and last year it was April 14th and has even been as late as April 21st, that the government decided that UK schools would have a set Spring Break rather than 2 weeks at easter.

It's not so much the problem of Easter variation as the problem it causes for the varying length of the Summer term which, if Easter falls early as next year, can be as long as 14 weeks or as short as 8 so, in order to rationalise it they decided it would be better if it could be standardised and an extra long weekend added if Easter falls outside those dates.

I wish hertfordshire had adopted the set terms but alas it hasn't. It is going tobe such a long term returning on April 14th. Luckily me son will do his Sats in May and then they seem to have fun for the rest of that year as its there last year in primary school.

As so many people have already mentioned Good Friday is 21st March 2008 but there seems to be a huge variation on when the Spring Break will be. Even on the Local Authority websites the small print below the calendars is usally stating 'check with individual schools for variations on this calendar'. Maybe we will be able to benefit from 'off-peak' flight prices. On occasion we have travelled from Glasgow to avoid school holiday dates & made huge savings. Worth checking other airport for the variation on peak dates!
