American Express travel money card

Hi just wondering what peoples thoughts and experiences of using the American Express travel money card. I can get one through my bank free and load on my cash in euros - we are going to Spain this summer instead of Florida - and i have never used one of these before and wondered how easy it was to use in shops or restaurants. I always use US$ travellers cheques when going to Florida as you can use them like cash in restaurants etc but wondered if you can do this with euro cheques.

I know you can use AmEx very widely in the USA but I'm just wondering how many traders in Spain accept AmEx?

Before you buy it, it might be worthwhile checking with AmEx how many outlets they have in the particular part of Spain you're visiting would accept it perhaps?

We have used the American express travellers cheque card in both Florida,Portugal,Spain and Greece and not had a problem,the shops take it as they do an American express credit card and you can use it at the ATM machines which is great
We have found it especially good when our son has gone abroad with friends rather than taking lots of cash he has taken cash out as he needed it

Thanks Sharon for your reply - it does sound handier than taking travellers cheques and trying to find somewhere to cash them. Do you get charged for using an ATM machine? Marion
