    Electric Adaptors

    Hi (again!)

Can someone let me know what the voltage rating is in Florida. This must seem a daft question but I have a camcorder which came with 2 powercords one with a three pin plug and one with two round pins which I have used on the continent.

Now I have also found a two straight pin nadaptor which fits over the two round pins but I ma not sure if this adaptor came with the camcorder (It was where I kept all the camcorder stuff). There is a warning on the flat pin adaptor which syas use for volt 125v and 250v. Can I use it in the States, I have forgotten what I did last time!!?

    Thanks

(My questions get dafter, I know!)

The voltage is 110v. 2 pin euro plugs (rounded pins) will not it. The usa has 2 or 3 flat pins. You will need to buy adaptor plugs, ebay usually has some good deals on them.

You are better buying the 2 flat pin adapter to fit the UK moulded plug. They are more sturdy.

You can buy these in most Supermarkets these days and only cost a couple of pounds.

Ebay's probably more expensive by the time you add Postage to the item
They are also widely available in the Airports too!

Make sure your camcorder charger is suitable for 110 volts. They normally say on them - input voltage 90-260, or simular.
If your charger covers the 110 volt range (they mostly do)then just buy an adaptor from UK 3 pin to US flat pin. These are readly available in shops before you go, at the airport or over there.

UK to US adaptors can also be purchased at Wal-Mart (and probably other supermarkets) when you are in Florida, Nigel. We found them in the lighting section last time we needed one.

US adapters are only good if the item you are plugging in is 110V compatible. It may work but at a lower power, and never try using a US appliance over here, something rated 110V used on 240V supply could easily cause a fire, just changing the plug or using a plug adapter is not enough.
