    Travellers Cheques and PIN!

I'm going to florida for first time in 12 days (yippee I can't wait)

    [clap][clap][clap][clap][clap][clap][clap]

I've the park tickets and I've got $4000 travellers cheques, with credit cards as back up.

How easy it is use travellers cheques to pay for goods/food/services. The lowest demomination is $20, has anyone been refused to pay for these. Do I need to keep my orginal passport with me?

I've just had another thought do they use PIN for credit cards in the US too?

    Thank you

You certainly need some cash straight away, are you doing a fly-drive. Are they US traveller cheques, they will be treated just like cash, and you will be given the change back in cash.

There is no chip and pin the US, it is the old fashioned signing, although they do have electronic scanning of the card for fraud etc, be warned though, we have had a number of occasions, where we have always told out credit card company we will be in the US and they still flag the card for approval first, it is not the same in the US as the UK, where they call for authorisation and answer some questions, etc, the US got say its been declined, they will not call the card merchant.

We`always contact the credit card company in UK before we leave for Florida and give them the dates when we will be leaving UK and return date. We forgot to inform one of our credit card companies before we left and when we went to Publix super market, though it came up declined they did phone for veryfication and we spoke to the sanction people who just asked us some security questions. The reason this some times happen is because credit card or UK bank would see this as an unexpected spend on your card, and this is a precautionary measure against fraud.
