My kids aged 8 and 4 decide what they want to go on (They have both done splash mountain and Thunder rail road. The would never choose a extreme ride that went upside down. Most of these rides are height restricted in any case.

We said to our girls once they hit the height restriction they really ought to try each ride once so they could be sure whether they wanted to do it again. We never insisted as such but encouraged them to have a go.
Our eldest hit the BIG coaster height 2 years ago, up until then she had said NO WAY, in fact we had thought she was OK for Incredible Hulk in the August but they guy had her checked again after sitting in the seat and she was just a tad short - she was extastic they she didn't have to ride!
Come our next visit just a few months later and with no line at all I said come on lets have a go - the first time had been with Dad and she said OK so long as Mum did it.
We can't get her off the things now - by the end of the holiday she was wanting to go on the front, on the back - her arms up in the air laughing and whooping all the way through the ride.
I have seen her sit next to some great big bloke who has held on for dear life and as we got off he's shook her hand for being so brave.
Our youngest says she can't wait to try them as she's been haning about waiting for us for teh past few years. She's 9 in November and if it runs the same she'll be big enough during our Christmas visit.
I think we'll have more bother getting her on than anything!
Have a wonderful time.
