how soon to book flights/cheapest time

Sorry if anybody has answered my query but I can't find the thread! We can't go in August because it's too expensive (4 adults and 1 child; if only you could turn back time) and we are finding it a bit tricky as eldest DD has exams. However is it better to book with VIrgin asap or doesn't it matter if you leave it a bit? Which time of year to coincide with school holidays is cheapest (even if only part of the trip is in the holidays)?

Hi, this is the 64 million dollar question because in my experience there doesnt seem to be a best time to book. Ive booked with Virgin as soon as flights have been released then found they have increased as time goes on. But - Ive also booked flights for August with Virgin last minute and had great deals i.e. £300 for last two weeks in August 2005.
I think you just have to keep plugging away at all the airlines and keep a close eye on whats happening. Virgin have sales every now and again and I'm off to Florida tomorrow for just £266 with Virgin, booked approximately 3 months ago.
Generally speaking though, the school holiday months of July/August are really expensive. If you can stretch to going in September, the flight prices come way down and the parks are a lot quieter.
Good luck with your search and have a great time when you get there.

I watch flights all the time and have to say there is no definite pattern. On the whole it seems if you have to go on set dates and particularly in main school hols the flights should be best when first released. Of course they may be cheaper 1-4 weeks before you go but this is the unknown and too risky for your situation.
