We've flown many times with Delta via Atlanta and they've always been good with no delays. The flights from Manchester have seat back screens although I don't know about those from other airports. The domestic part of the journey doesn't have these but it's only around an hour's flight.
Atlanta airport is huge... you get on an underground train between the international and domestic terminals and there are lots of shops, restaurants, etc if you're there a little while in between flights.

We flew Delta last June from Gatwick to Orlando via Cincinatti and returned via Atlanta. We did not have any problems, the flights were on time, the films met with my teenage son's approval and the food was okay. At Christmas we flew with BA direct in and out of Miami. This time we each had our own tv screen which was better as you had a choice of 3 or 4 films to chose from rather than all watching the same film.
I've flown loads with delta (they even upgraded me to first once) Make sure you leave plenty of time to use the trains - running to the gate just aint an option!
If you get chance, Atlanta is an interesting place to spend some time. I haven't been there since the olympics, but the World of Coca Cola is worth a look if you're interested in the history of the biggest global brand in the world!
All I can say is with BA you have your own tv in the seat, which helps a lot on a long flight
I flew Delta a few years ago and they were ok but not as good as BA at the time.
But things may have changed now, others here may have an upto date report and im sure they
will let you know

We were delayed the only time we have flown with them and then flew into a storm at Atlant - airport shut, airplane circling, plane landed, airport shut again, no luggage offloaded until airport open again. Meant to arrive at 3 something for 5ish connection. Got to check in desk after 6 - flight still hadn't left, planned for 7. Left at 1.30. Arrived MCO half dead (been up since 5am day before UK time!).
Return journey was also eventfull. Man at ticket desk keeps some of our tickets. Disover at Atlanta he has taken the connecting flights to LGW.
Have major fight with jobsworth to try and get replacement, most unhelpful people I have ever met. Never, ever travel without your flight confirmation from airline or travel agent. This was the only thing that got us a ticket. (What are computers for I ask?) Tickets have to be hand written. I have to run half way across Atlant airport to get to desk with minutes (literally) until flight due to go. Guess what. Flight delayed.
But, it was cheap. £349 in Jul / Aug instead of 600 with BA. But in future we try to book with BA on the day they release flights, or go with AA via Miami - great service - for us as we are only 15 mins from LHR.
Delta are good for internal flights, but agreed that the seat-back tv's on Virgin/BA make for a better long flight.
I liked the food on the Delta internal flights. Last time we flew, it was quite "snackey" which suits my diet of junk food [].

We have done Manchester to Tampa, via Atlanta many times - no complaints what so ever. Atlanta is a very large airport but the staff are very helpfull. My parents swear by Delta airlines and the service that you receive from them. I have heard mixed views about BA's flights to Orlando, but haven't personally flown with them.
WWW.delta.com gives additional information on what they have to offer during the flight !
