Thanks for that - I read the forums, over a work lunchtime, and often click on the owner links under the various posts just to see where the villas are. As you say you start to get to know the owners a little bit.

One of the things I haven't done is looked at renters reviews - must do that.[msnsmile]

Everyone here knows the first class job you do in ensuring that the villa owners are who they say they are but I am assuming that it is almost impossible to check that all the facilities offered are available. Is this correct or are there checks that you do when the villa first gets posted.

As John has said, it would not be possible for the site owners to check that all facilities claimed were actually available.

However, surely facilities like PCs, spas, hot tubs, TVs, baby equipment, could be verified by the owner in their villa pictures.

good luck Sue, dont be put off with this one, there are so many fantastic villas out there for you to choose from, and the norm is everyone i mean everyone on this site and its sister sites is wonderful and the villa owners normally cant do enough to help you the guest have the best time of your lives! we have rented 3 times now and loved every minute of it! looking forward to our next trip in september!

Hi Sue, I hope this case doesn't put you off renting privately as it gives you so much more choice than renting from an agent, who would normally 'allocate' you a villa on arrival. When you have a short list, contact the owners with your questions and concerns, we can always give you contacts of past guests or be happy to chat for ages about our little bits of paradise

Sue, I have to agree with Shirley by talking to the owners of the villas you are interested in you will get a good idea of their attitude to their guests and how much they value their homes in Florida. I always say that if my husband lavished as much care and attention on our home in the UK we would be living in luxury. He will do jobs out in Florida that he does not think about doing here. He even gets the vacuum cleaner out.

Same with us! Both my husband and I knock ourselves out caring for the Florida villa when we're there. At home, I tend to be lax unless I'm entertaining. I think that's why we're so fussy with the Florida place - we want everything to be perfect for our guests. It's like we're always entertaining!

UPDATE
firstly apologies for not replying to any comments
my computer is crashing every time i log on and have a DM....ACTIVEXControl box keeps popping up and Windows then closes down.
so I am on a different computer
JUST TO INFORM YOU ALL.....I have given this guy a WEEK from his refund-promise email and not received anything.
SO......as many of you will be pleased to know and have been nagging at me !!! ( in the kindest possible way !! ) I SHALL be reporting him to Roger and John ....in fact I'm SOOOOOO tempted to name and shame him here and now for all to see......he has SEVERAL villas
I incurred MASSIVE costs here as well......my mobile phone bill was over £100 trying to get all this sorted from the US !!
so I shall be emailing Roger RIGHT now
ps.......If you DM me I cannot reply or rather daredn't as keep crashing

PS.......I am NOT put off choosing a villa from here AT all......my mistake here i think was not checking his Feedback for his villa......there was none !!
