cat in the hat at emerald isle???

earlier in the week around dusk we had a drive around rolling hills area then used the back road past splendid china, we then had a little nose in towards emerald isle. as we entered the road in we saw a cat cross the road in front of us?? a large cat!
would describe it as doberman size with small slightly chopped ears, couldnt really give anything on its markings, could this have been a lynx.
it was slim and seemed to skip across the road and into the scrub, like an african long distance runner!

    any ideas?

We see reindeers in the day time at the rear of our villa as we are overlooking conservation and the more they build in FLORIDA they lose their habitat and consequently the we get more animals to see which is good for us .
There are lots of wildlife not seen any lynx but maybe that is what you came across .
Have you not been to the library in FLORIDA I am sure they have a book with animals you can see in and around FLORIDA.
We will keep our eyes open when we are next in FLORIDA .[msnsmile2]

Not a panther (too small, the ears don't match your description and panther's look more like lionesses) but probably a bobcat (lynx rufus floridanus).

Yes, bobcats are large dog size Trev.

A Florida panther looks like this with a long curly up tail, like a lioness and about the same size.

We thought that we had seen a Lynx on our first visit to Florida, which was, 1995, ever since we still tell people, we saw a Lynx[msnscared]
