    Summer skiing (August)

    This year, I'm being outvoted.

We've been arguing for a month or two now about what to do this summer. My vote is for the usual - Orlando plus gulf coast. Mrs T wants to go back to Captiva for 2 or 3 weeks and skip Orlando (it really was superb there last year), but the kids don't want to do Florida at all this time. I've told them if we don't get a decision this week, I'm booking the usual and that's that, but it hasn't gone down well.

    Suggestions have been :

    1. Cottage in Ireland - waterskiing for a couple of weeks
    2. Cornwall - as above
    3. Canada - I have a cousin who runs one of those summer activity camps in the mountains and we could dump two of them there for a week or so.
    4. Villa somewhere in Europe
    5. Skiing somewhere.

I didn't think there was anywhere you can ski in the summer - but the kids assure me you can and I've looked on the web. It appears you can ski in some bits of France during the summer, but honestly, I can't abide the place and I don't really fancy anywhere in Europe.

There's some info about Colorado, but it's not really informative.
Has anybody been skiing in the US or Canada in the summer? Any advice or thoughts? All advice gratefully received.

THere are LOADS of waterskiing places in Orlando and on the coase - our favourite is LAke Buena Vista Watersports - have known Dave and Angie for at least 15 years - they taught me to ski, and you can rent a boat out for an hour with driver, take tubes, jetskis, sit by the beach -it is really great -for get snow in summer for heavens sakes -get to Blizzard Beach if necessary!
Sounds like the kids were bored with just beach, so I reckon some time in ORlando may sway it, with Captiva afterwards - or why not fly into, say Texas, and drive down through New Orleans - the worlds your lobster as Peter Kay would say.

    Susan,

Methinks he means skiing on snow!

I think all the summer skiing in Europe is on glaciers, I have been on the highest lift in Val-d'Isere(3,400 mtrs or there abouts) and I know they ski there, also I believe in Italy.

I know there is summer skiing in Alaska - how about New Zealand to Ski? I am told it is great and summer(ours not theirs)flights are not that much more expensive than to the USA.

I saw a programme some time ago now, about skiing in Peru in the summer. You could then still maybe fit in a trip to Orlando, being you are that side of the Atlantic

Thanks for these. It's snow skiing the kids are after - I quite fancy the idea of New Zealand, but no-one else does (flights too long). Mrs T is pushing quite hard now for Captiva, but I'm not ready to give up on snow skiing just yet. I just don't know if it's feasible; back to the internet for more research I suppose.

Can't you go snow skiing in winter? Take the kids water skiing, and to a couple of water parks and they#ll love it!! Its not just the skiing, its everything else in the holiday- and Florid has it all and then some
