I've just had the perfect evening.

A month or two ago, the BBC broadcast a live performance (well, recorded live)of The Dark Side Of The Moon, from a 1994 Pink Floyd concert in Earl's Court. I was supposed to be there in 1994, had tickets, but missed it, due to the birth of my son.

Anyway, I saw it was being broadcast and recorded it. I've been travelling a lot over the past weeks and just haven't had the time to sit down and watch it. When I've been home, there's been too much happening to do it justice, so I simply made sure it had the "keep" logo attached and warned the family on pain of death not to record over it.

Tonight, Mrs Tonish went to bed early (she's got the 'flu); no.1 son has been ensconced in the back room with a few of his mates watching DVDs and talking about girls, so he was well out of the way; I packed no.2 son off to Italy on a ski trip this morning (his fault I missed the original concert); no.3 son went to bed at 8.30 with a book and a Narnia tape; daughter has been asleep (astoundingly) since about the same time.

So... it was time to watch Pink Floyd do what I wanted to see them do in 1994, and have longed to see since I first bought the album more than 30 years ago.

I put the surround sound on the big screen, turned up the sub-woofer, turned off the lights, lit a fat Monte Cristo no 5, poured myself a whisky that would choke a horse and settled down to watch, with the volume up as far as I could without breaking the glass.

It was well worth the wait. I haven't enjoyed myself as much in years. Suddenly I was a teenager again and Pink Floyd were Gods. This is, without doubt, the best album ever made, conceived, recorded or produced. (Although they stuck a couple of extra bits in this version which I wasn't expecting and I don't know that I approve).

On top of that, when it was over and I sat down at the PC to check a couple of emails before heading to bed myself, one of them was from my main client advising me that additional, unexpected, substantial bonus would be in my bank account on Monday.

Don't know about the rest of you, but I've had a good Saturday. Pink Floyd rule! Now, all I need for my next perfect evening is a night of ELP performing "Welcome back my friends" and I can die happy.
