    Flights

    Hi
First of all a big thank you to all who responded to our villa enquiry. We have had a great time looking at all your villas before making our selection. Hoping to reply individually, but this may take some time....

As we are first time renting a villa & booking flights ourselves please could anyone give us any tips on booking cheap flights in high season. We aren't going till August '08 and there are 5 of us. 2 adults, 3 children who will be 16,14 & 9. Can flights be booked with just a deposit, or do they have to be paid for in full when booking? Can you pre-book seating? Have saved a few Tesco coupons to convert to Airmiles if necessary, does this work out cheaper? How easy? So many questions.....!!

    Any tips would be appreciated!

    Many thanks
    Alison

A lot of flights will not allow you to book until a year ahead. It is always (in my view) to book as early as you can. I ended up leaving it too late a few years ago and was left with not much choice.

You can use airmiles, but these might be limited to dates you can use them. Each airline will be different.

Generally, you can book flights up to 336 days from departure (with some variation from this). Most flights can be booked with a deposit but some specials may require full payment.

Virgin Holidays Flydrive can be booked up to 14 months in advance with just a deposit and you can make changes to dates etc should things change.

Always check before booking if flights are changeable/refundable too[msnwink]

Yes you can pre asign your seats at time of booking too[msnwink]

Just be aware your older 2 children will be classed as adults for flights but VH normally do a teen fare[msnwink]

I think that Virgin open the booking for summer 2008 in late April early May. maybe someone could confirm that as we are waiting to be able to book our June 2008 holiday too!

    Hi
We have just been quoted £639 + £145 tax each for the 2 adults and 2 teenagers plus £349 + £145 tax for our youngest. This works out at £3630 travelling via Virgin (direct)for 3 weeks in August 08. Would you say this is a good price or are we better to wait until a little nearer the time and see if there are any offers with other airlines?

Your experience is really valued. We are "virgins" at organising travel arrangements ourselves!![msnscared][msnscared]

I would say that is a good price if any price over £600 can be classed as good.

    Hi

If you apply for a Virgin Atlantic Flying Club credit card, you get airmiles for every pound you spend. We have just done that (and were awarded 6000 bonus airmiles before we even started using it).

Because of these airmiles, we have now (this week) been able to book our Aug 07 flights (2 adults, 1 teen, 1 child) and got approx £150 off per person.

    Just a thought.
