I have had a spray tan before and was very disappointed with the results. I was wearing trainers and the heat rubbed it off my feet so when I wanted to wear sandals it looked stupid! It also wore off uneven so went quite streaky after a few days. [msnembarrased]
The salon one which I tend to use is St Tropez. I go for the cream application not the spray. I have very fair skin and it gives a lovely colour - not dark at all. (I was still paler than my DH on Day 2!!) They cover you up and you are never exposed unless you want your chest done but they tend to be very discreet and let you have your modesty. They exfoliate your whole body first and then she leaves the room while you shower it off. Then she applies the cream and buffs you up. You do look a bit "dirty" that day but you shower it off the next morning. It fades gradually and I have never had any streakign with it.
As for a do it yourself one I would also say that Lancome are great. They used to do one for fair skin (not sure if they still do). And the Dove one is lovely too. Just put it on every night and build it up to the level you want.
