Eating out in Orange Tree

Hi folks,

Me again, looking for some more of your friendly advice. As a consequence of having such a great time on my first trip to Florida last Novemebr on a golf trip, I am bringing the whole family out there for the first two weeks of May. We are staying in the Orange Tree community but as we are unfamiliar with this area, I was hoping that someone could enlighten us regarding our options for eating out, supermarket shopping and everthing else that goes with a villa holiday in this area.

I am sure your villa owner will have lots of information to pass onto you. We have a villa on a nearby development and send our guests out this sort of info, so am sure they will too.

There is a fantastic local Super*Walmart at Cagan's Crossing just down the 27, and there are some eating places nearby, Taco Bell and Long John Silvers, and round the corner on the 192 there is every possible restaurant you could need. Just at the junction of the 192 and the 27 there is a Publix Supermarket (our favourite for food shopping, excellent quality, great service) with a Papa John's takeaway, and there is also a 24 hour Denny's too. Further down there is Houlihans, Cracker Barrell, Carrabbas, Golden Corrall, McDonalds, Outback etc. a wide variety to suit all tastes and pockets.

However, we often drive up to Clermont which is just north of you, to Highway 50 where there are lots of different restaurants to choose from, such as Ruby Tuesdays, and many of the big chains, but the beauty of them is that they are far less crowded as they are not in a tourist area. We find the 15 minute drive is well worth it, and it shows you a little of the Floridian countryside, too, past lakes and orange groves.

Our home is on Orange Tree and I echo everything that Ellie says above. We much prefer to go that little bit further up to Hwy 50 where there are Ruby Tuesdays, Carrabbas, Outback Steakhouse, Chilli's, Steak n Shake, Perkins to name but a few.

Another favourite, but well worth the half hour drive south on Hwy 27, is Manny's Chop House. Do a search on this forum and you'll find lots about it. We first went after reading reviews on here and we intend to make it our first stop when we arrive later this week.
They do great steaks, 2 for 1 fajita evenings, kids eat free evenings. Here's their website: www.mannyschophouse.com.

Thanks for all your advice and I have no doubts that we will all have a truely great time. I stayed in Southern Dunes last November and so am very familiar with the attractions of dining in Mannys Chophouse, three nights out of seven was our attendance record there I think. There seems to be lots of options for eating out in the Orange Tree area and I look forward to trying as many as possible. Are there many international resturants in the area as I am a firm beleiver that variety is the spice of life. I would also appreciate all kinds of info pertinent to the Orange Tree area. Are there any bars in the area that would be walkable? A pub/resturant that transmits live premiership games might be a matter of life or death if this seasons top prize goes to the wire.( We will be there for the first two weeks of May)Also what are the local golf courses as you never know, I might even secure a pass that allows me to play a few holes some morning/afternoon.

By the time you go out Paul there will be an Applebees open at Berry Town Centre, a mile or so south of the 192/27 junction. There may also be a KFC, Chillis and Golden Corral and a Chinese open near Walmart at Cagans Crossing.

There was numerous golf courses to choose from in the area also, the owner of the villa you are staying in will be aabe to point you in the right direction.
