    Dubai

    Hi All

Has anyone been to Dubai and if so, where is the best place to stay for ease of getting places and also for a nice relaxing holiday? Any places worthy of note near beaches? Also, best beach etc. Anything not to be missed?

We have never been before but are considering going this year - not sure which month but are in Las Vegas in March, so although we know that is a 'cooler' month over in Dubai, that's month is obviously out.

Any other info would be great.

    Thanks in anticipation. [msnsmile2]

We went to Dubai for a week in early December. We stayed in a wonderful villa in Jumeirah with 3 bedrooms, Internet Acess, pool etc. If you want more details, let me know.

We mainly went to Jumeirah beach, and paid to use the facilities of the Jumeirah Beach Hotel (the huge wave shaped one) but there are many other excellent beaches around.

    Things to see in Dubai.

Shopping! shopping! shopping! Mall of the Emirates, Gold Souk, Spice Souk are all excellent and there are many more.

    Wild Wadi a water park.

4 wheel drive tours aross the dunes then have dinner and entertainment out in the desert.

    Sking......with real snow.

Lunch or brunch at the Burj al Arab - remember to book well in advance. The atrium in the lobby is 60 storeys high, really stunning.

    Dinner sailing up the creek.

Helicopter flights over the city..amazing I do it for free at least once a month!!!!

The list is endless, however travel around the city is hard work the roads are gridlocked at times. I think 5 to 7 days is about right for a stay.

April, May and June are great. July and August far too hot and very humid to the point of unpleasent, the facct you can get cheap deals to Dubai during these months says it all. Sept, Oct and Nov very good as well.

Winter sun in Dec, Jan and Feb is ok but is the only time to have a little rain and strong winds (shamal).

This is the villa we stayed in. The 3 on the site are owned by the same couple (from the UK now living in Dubai).

We always stay at hotels on Jumeirah beach, though those up the far end, such as the Hilton and Oasis are really surounded by the building works. As mentioned, traffic is really bad, but if you go into town a bit earlier (4 ish) you can avoid some of it.

We had a week at the Jebel Ali which is about 25 mins out of Dubai so we found it very quiet and you could have been on an island! They run a bus twice a day in and out of Dubai city centre but the taxis are very cheap. We had a week in July to celebrate our silver wedding anniversary, the weather was a trifle warm (!) but it is not humidity so we didn't find it a problem.

I would agree with Neil about the length to stay - long enough to eat at a few of the top rated restaurants and see the sites, do some shopping and not get bored with living in the lap of luxury[msnwink].

    Hi Francine

The Jumeriah Beach Hotel is our favourite, we have been twice, if you want a really laid back holiday this is the place, they pamper you to death, and you have 18 restaurants to chose from, I can proudly say that I have done them all, if you want a little bit more Arabic, next door is the Mina A Salem, with its waterways and souks, tons to do in Dubai, I take taxis everywhere, and most of the Hotels do free transfer to and from the airport, take a look at Airline Network in the Mail on Saturday, they have some great deals for Dubai, all the people who have been there I have never heard a bad word said against it, I love it so much I am having a place built in the Marina.

Good luck, and let us know how you get on.

    Alan
