My main disagreement would be that I don't see Heelies as being on the same level as skateboarding or biking from an exercise point of view, as most of the time I see these the wearer would be walking 2 steps and wheeling the equivalent of about 20 - therefore less energy used than if they were walking.
If my kids asked for them - and I could justify the price tag that is normally associated with these novelties - then I wouldn't mind them wearing them, but I - like others on here - would expect them to show consideration for property and others when deciding where to 'wheel'

I have an 11yr old son who has a pair of heelies and they have been a blessing, because as with most 11 yr old boys he hates shopping. He now loves to help me with the food shop as long as he can wear his heelies, however he has to be considerate to others and stay with me, and if the shop is busy he does not skate at all. I must admit I do have concerns about the unatural way they walk when not skating and the strain on their achilles when skating. At the moment he does not play out in them as it is very hard to kick a football in them[msnsmile2].

I would not worry too much about the walking part. When ridoing on the wheels it has a counter effect to walking (strecthing both ways. I once had physio therapy whicj included do the same motion for as long as possible (toes down and then toes up).
You see yhoung girls walking around in heels which put way mor strain on that the 10 -q5mm the wheels stick out.

My sister is a midwife and was working over Christmas. When we saw her two days later she told us that they had 7 children in the childrens ward on Boxing Day with either leg or arm breaks - all of which were as a result of Heelys!

To make it worse I bought her son back a pair from Florida for his Christmas present - she said she is going to sue me if he hurts himself!

My kids bought these a couple of years ago when we were in FL. I have the same shoe size as my eldest son so gave them a go. What I didn’t like was I felt it encouraged you to lean back to get the wheels in contact with the floor. It felt as though I could easily fall back.
