    BA strike

Got this from BA today just in case anyone is travelling soon.

We wrote to you earlier today to confirm that the Transport and General Workers Union's (T&G's) cabin crew branch announced it plans a series of 72 hour strikes on January 29, 30 and 31; February 5,6 and 7; and February 12,13 and 14.

We are currently assessing the impact any potential industrial action will have on our flight schedule, in the event that a strike does take place. We are working as quickly as possible to confirm our plans for the affected period.

We can now confirm that we aim to make information available about the first period of action from Wednesday January 24 and will update you with this as soon as it is available.

We will also publish at the same time a comprehensive policy that will cover re-booking, re-routing and refund options.

We would like to assure you once again that we remain committed to resolving this dispute through continued talks.

The latest information on the situation can be found on the 'latest flight news' pages on ba.com. We would encourage you to check these pages regularly if you are due to travel over the coming weeks.

    Yours faithfully,

    British Airways

As you may be aware, the cabin crew branch of the Transport and General Workers' Union (T&G) has notified British Airways today (Wednesday January 24) that it has decided to cancel the first day of its planned strike (Monday January 29).

Strikes are still scheduled to take place on Tuesday January 30 and Wednesday January 31 followed by 72-hour walk-outs beginning on Monday February 5 and Monday February 12.

We would like to assure you that we remain committed to the pursuit of a negotiated settlement.

If the T&G does not call off the rest of its strikes for next week we will announce tomorrow (Thursday January 25) details of our flight schedule for the first period of action. We will update you with this information as soon as it is available.

We understand that this is an uncertain time for our customers. We would like to reassure you that we are doing everything we can to make sure that disruption is minimised in the event of any strike action.

Flights operated by our subsidiary, BA Connect, franchise partners BMED, GB Airways, SunAir and Comair as well as flights operated by our codeshare partners with a BA flight code and flights between Manchester and New York JFK are unaffected by any potential strike action (* for more information please go to the bottom of the email).

If you are due to travel between January 29 and February 16 we understand that you may wish to change your plans. As a result, we have introduced a policy that enables you to rebook flights for a different date.

If you are currently holding a booking for a flight departing on Tuesday January 30 or Wednesday January 31 and wish to gain a refund you should contact us. If you are in the UK you can call us on 0800 727 800 (freephone). If you are calling from outside the UK, please click here to find contact details for your local British Airways office
    http://ba.com/contact

Alternatively, if your booking was made through a travel agent, you should contact them directly.

In the event of strike action we will publish a comprehensive policy that will cover re-booking, re-routing and refund options if flights are cancelled.

You may be able to change the date of your booking via the Change Booking facility on ba.com. Please visit

Hope it settled soon. I prefer Virgin but BA was quite a bit cheaper.

    BA strike to go ahead
    Press Association
    Thursday January 25, 2007 3:58 AM

A strike by thousands of British Airways cabin crew will go ahead, it has been announced.

The planned strike action had been delayed 24 hours to allow more time for peace talks, but those talks broke down last night and the two-day strike will begin on Tuesday.

The industrial action is over differences relating to sickness absence, pay and staffing.

The strike is expected to cause disruption for hundreds of thousands of the airline's customers.

The Transport and General Workers Union deputy general secretary, Jack Dromey, said: "We are dismayed and saddened that BA failed to grasp this genuine opportunity, squandering a sincere gesture of goodwill. The company has failed to hear the voice of common sense. This is a sad day for passengers and cabin crew alike."

Describing the company's conduct of the negotiations as "incomprehensible", Mr Dromey added: "Our door remains open."

The union said that BA had rejected its proposals which it claimed would have led to the resolution of the dispute with the company's cabin crew.

The strike was due to last three days but was reduced to two by the union.

The union said that BA had "simply failed to respond to the gesture of goodwill of the calling-off of the first day of the three-days of industrial action next week, a move designed to open up a pathway towards a settlement and a new relationship between BA and the cabin crew".

But BA accused the union of failing to "respond positively" to the serious proposals it had put forward.

If I was those that have tickets to fly on the strike days, I would be asking for a re-route ASAP. I was caught up in Washington when BA had the gate gourmet saga and they sent us on another route. Good job we got in first, others were not so lucky and stranded a week as all the flights they were putting people on were totally full.
