Flying Virgin, VS015 next week was just wondering the best way to check in. I have read somewhere that the queue for the bag drop can be longer than the check in desks. Would like to know what your experiences are.

We travelled a couple of weeks ago and used online check in and bag drop. We flew from Manchester and the bag drop line wasn't open so they let us use the Premium Economy and Upper Class check in. Coming back from Orlando the bag drop was open and there were only two people in front of us in the queue. The queues for normal check in were very long at both airports. I would certainly recommend on line check in if its an option for you.

Check-in on line works well. At Gatwick you turn up at the airport, go to the DIY check in line.
I have never had to wait very long. at most there were 3 people waiting.
For the return trip do the same, the difference is you will then have to carry your luggage from the check in desk to the security scanning area. This is another one of Virgin Atlantics poor services.
If you cannot get onto the Virgin Atlantic website to check in ( I tried most of the day trying to check in on the return trip and failed ! ) go directly to the DIY check in queue (which I have found slightly longer at VA Orlando desk) and explain failure of the website. I did and the lady checked me in there otherwise I would have had a long wait in a long queue.

We have used on-line check in on both of our trips and would thoroughly recommend it. Each time there have been at most 6 people ahead of us yet the normal check in was back as far as the entrance to the airport.
Sometimes there is a queue for the DIY check in, but we have not known it as long as the regular queues. But another option is to do the twilight checkin if you are staying over night first, and then in Orlando you can do the Disney Downtown checkin.
Personally we tried to use the on line service in November. It would not work for us as it would not recognize my children's date of birth. We called Virgin customer services and even then they could not fix the problem. We had to wait nearly two hours at MCO just to check in.

As we live quite close to Gatwick, when we used Virgin in Sept we checked in our cases on the Friday night and then just walked through the departures on the Saturday morning, it was a great service, no queues [clap].
We always use the on line check in and then drop the bags off the next day and we have never had to wait in a long queue at the airport.

On line check in at Gatwick on 6th January was horrendous - longer than the other queues. I have found MCO great with little or no queues.

Could you not just drop your bags at the normal checkin if this is the case?
