    Quick Question re Travllers Cheques

The answer will be on the forums somwhere, but I'm supposed to be working from home at the moment, but my mind has drifted over the Atlantic !

We are not due to go until October, but as the dollar rate is so fantastic at the moment we are thinking of buying some. Don't want to travel with wads of cash though, so my question is - Can I buy Dollar traveller cheques now and get them at the good rate and then just hold them until October ? It may seem a simple question, but it's just that a bloke at my work said to buy cash now, so I wasn't sure. I was going to go to get them tomorrow, hence asking now instead of working !

Please post loads of replies to keep my from work[msnsmile]

    Thanks

There is no expiry date on travellers cheques so you can buy them whenever the rate is good, or whenever you have saved up some spare cash. Just remeber to keep a note of your cheque numbers seperate from your travellers cheques and make sure you sign them once as soon as you get them.
IF you a picking them up from somewhere they normally make you sign them infront of them.

    I bought some yesterday.....$1.91 to the £ [msnsmile2]
    HSBC...no commission

We are going in late June, so I'm 'collecting' now. I'm fed up of horrible credit card bills when we get back![msnscared]

You'll need a little cash when you get there for the toll roads.

we just got back from the states and this time we used that new post office travellers cheque card thing..you load money onto it then just use it as a debit card. so you will get the rate at the moment if you load money now.

it was far better than taking travellers cheques and it's easy to check your balance with the phone number on the back.

also you can load money every month if you want to so it's a good way of saving money for your holiday!

my husband had the american express version which was just as good.

Sounds like a good idea to buy some now, or the card Annette suggested, the rate is high and you can spread the cost of your holiday

We're not going til next year but I am seriously tempted to exchange some - I can't imagine the rate being as good as this when we need it to be.

The M and S credit card is useful for buying currency. You get 0% interest on currency for a year when you are a new card holder, so you could buy some now, and not pay until later!

You can order currency over the web, or in certain stores with a bureau de change.

    They offer excellent rates too.
