Thread: First Timers!

    First Timers!

We are visiting Florida for the first time in May/June. We are thinking of Oak Island Harbour. We want something with restaurants within a walkable distance. Is Oak Island nice? If budget isn't an issue, where else should we consider?
    thanks

Oak Island is in a great location, near to the Disney parks, just off the 192 in the Formosa area. You can walk to the restaurants of Formosa Place, but realistically although only a five minute drive, it would probably be 15-25 minutes walk. There are lots of great communities in that area including Formosa Gardens, Acadia Estates, Sunset Lakes and Emerald Isle - probably others I have missed as well.

ye also in that area is Indian Creek, which for some reason, doesnt get much of a mention.

We stayed there last year and going again next year. Its lovely very nice and quiet.

I think that you'll probably have to have a think about this walking business. Although I'm not a resident in the times that we have been walking to a restaurant was pretty much a no-goer due to distance.
I'm more than happy to be told I'm wrong --what do others think?

there are some places you can stay and walk to a number of restaurants as mentioned above but to be frank there are so many things you can do in Florida once you have a car - many of them off the mainline tourist trail! And certainly public transport does not get you to these places. I would always say go for a car wherever you stay!

Oak Island Harbor is situated in a good place. However realistically do you really want to walk everywhere, especially on a full stomach in the heat![msnsmile2]

If you have children look at all the resort communities too. Don't rule anywhere out.
