I was told it was switched on but had to be turned up because it was cooler and no cover was used. However this was not our fault and the pool was not usable for 2 days.

I have been told that the owner feels the shower handle was "accidental damage" so is only charging us half the fee.

I'm really not happy at being treated this way and feel that there should be somewhere to warn potential renters of this type of thing. I will never book from this owner again as I feel he is not being fair regarding a refund.

It's a difficult one because if the pool heat was on then it should have still been usable - I would think just not quite as warm as it should have been.

You say the pool cover was not used, but do you mean that they had a cover but you didn't use it. Otherwise it may be that the pool people checked/balanced the pool and had to take the cover off?

The pool heat often takes at least 12 hours to warm up if it was switched on for you on the arrival day, and normally guests arrive late afternoon/early evening the first day and don't get around to using it until their first full day anyway? I presume by two days you mean the first day (arrival day) and day after?

It really depends on what the pool heat was set at and if it was an acceptable heat then I'm not sure it would warrant a refund as after all the pool heat was set and working. It is very hard to say only hearing one side of the story sadly and the management company would have to qualify what heat the pool was actually at when they came to turn it up.

There was no pool cover. The pool was not usable for the first 2 full days. We arrived late on friday (11.30pm) and reported the pool heat the next day, saturday. It was changed late on the saturday but not usable until on the monday.

Just to let everyone on the forum know that I have come to an agreement with the villa owner.

We decided on a 50% refund.

I took the blame for the call out when I forgot to leave a key in the lockbox and agreed to pay the full amount for this mistake.

The owner felt it was accidental damage to the shower handle by one of my group. I knew this not to be the case but could not prove it so agreed to pay part of the payment.

As a former villa owner i don't think amy charge should of beem made but thats just my opinion.

I understand that the pool heater could of been on but as id didn't heat the pool to the required level it wasn't usable until it was turned up. Again I understand this was difficult for the villa owner to know but i had paid for a useable heated pool and shouldn't of been the one to suffer.

I hope this is an end of the matter. I do feel that owners should decide amoungst themselves what is actual damage and what should be charged to the owner.

For example, would a tv that blows up be charged for ? A toester, oven etc etc. I don't think so but thats my opinion.

As far as i'm concerned the matter is over and i'll await my refund cheque.

Thank you for updating us. I'm pleased you came to a reasonably satisfactory agreement and I hope this hasn't put you off renting in the future. Do check for a pool cover next time as this really does make a difference to the pool heat.
