It's 200 cigarettes each for adults over 18. But cigarettes and drink are cheaper in the US than you can get them duty free.

I don't know about cigarettes but I have travelled to the US a lot recently and have seen some very good prices in Duty Free, particularly with things like '3 for 2' deals. I don't buy much booze in the US but my experience has been that the supermarket prices are usually quite a bit more than UK Duty Free deals.

I suspect that the benefits vary between products but it certainly isn't true that all alcohol is cheaper in the US.

I find that the big bottles(1.75 lt) of the standard spirits(whisky, gin, rum, vodka etc)in a supermarket are cheaper for some less well known brands; but the not so for some of the premium brands and liqueurs.

Few people these days seem drink neat spirts. I have to smile at those people who insist on the most expensive brand of a spirit by name and then top up their glass with coke/dry ginger etc.

We used to buy a big bottle (of the less well know brands!) and bring the rest home. The trouble is you can't do that now, unless you risk checking it in [msnsad]

I use to find that you could not get English cigarette very easily in the US, so use to buy them at the airport however I have now stopped smoking for 5 years so it may be diferent.

Regardless of where you bought them, whether its in the USA or in duty free, you can only legally take 200 each back to the UK.

However if you where to illegally take more back, it would be better to by them in the USA as you could pack them in your case, instead of carrying them as duty free. Not that i would condone this, but you can carry quite alot in your case..........so i've heard[msnembarrased].
You must remember as pointed out earlier, not all, if any UK brands are available in mainstream USA. Even Marlboro lights are different. The USA version have white tips and are stronger than UK versions.
