    PASSPORT OFFICE

A passport office is to be opened in Blackburn this year as part of new controls to cut fraudulent applications.

The office will allow applicants for new passports to be interviewed in East Lancashire, rather than have to travel to Liverpool

I am pretty sure that one is opening in Manchester soon too as they have been advertising for staff.

One of the kids travelling with us this time has just turned 16.

Does anyone know if they are still ok to travel on the 5 year passport they have, or do we need to change it to an adult 10 year one?

AS long as the passport is still valid you should be fine.

My daughter who is 18 next month has only just renewed her passport this week. so for the last 2 years she has been using her childs passport with no problems.

They are ok until they expire, then it is a ten year one. All passports are hand delivered now. It comes to something when the passport office don't trust the post office!

The passport must of course be 'machine readable' and (I think) must have 6 months left before expiry if travelling to USA.

Just spotted this tid bit on the Passport Office web site.

From 15th May 2006 you can now complete your application form 'online' - all well and good but! - "This allows you to fill in the form and send it to us online. We then post you the printout. You need to sign this and return it to us with your photographs and any documents we need." - Hm, so I fill it out online & then THEY post it to me to sign. How does this speed things up I wonder.
