    can't sing - won't sing

    help !!!!

my worst nightmare is fast approaching

    karaoke[msnscared]

we have been invited to a new years eve bash and the theme is movie stars and karaoke and no matter how much i protest i will be expected to sing or forever be known as a party pooper

now what's wrong with a good old sing song i can here you saying?,

for the most, people will have had a few drinks (or maybe more) so they probably wont care how foolish or awful they may sound but i will be sober and know just exactly how much of a fool i will look and how dreadfull i will sound [msnembarrased]

so here are my two questions

    1. can anyone suggest a song where it doesn't matter if you cannot sing in tune [msneek]?

    2. or can anyone come up with a really good excuse to get me out of it without looking like a spoilsport [msnwink]?

    please please help

Have you a couple of friends you can rope in to do a group song so you dont feel so self conscious?

I would feel the same way as you and do not like to be the center of attention and do NOT sing, well maybe when my favorite song is on the radio and I am alone. I would rather say no and be a party pooper then worry and stress over it before the party and dread going.

Mizzy, if you do end up having to sing, don't forget that, as you pointed out, they will all be worse for wear so won't even remember. You on the other hand will remember everything that happened - and can remind them on a regular basis.

Everyone is out for fun at these places - think of something they will all sing along to. They enjoy that.

Delila might be a good one.

Try "Wanderin' Star" by Lee Marvin or "If" by Telly Savalas---then all you have to do is speak!

Alternatively, working on the basis that 90% of people on Karaoke can't sing in tune anyway try 4 Cheeky Vimtos (Port + Blue WKD) and then you'll be able to sing anything!!

I once went on a Karaoke in Cyprus and was appalling but I thought what the heck nobody here knows me anyway-until a woman who lives round the corner back in England came and said hello!! [msnsmile]

    Albert...

You beat me to it. I was just about to suggest the same songs !

If you can get a couple of mates to sing with you, try something like a Grease Medley. Everyone knows Grease and you'll get most of the venue singing along too, so it really wont seem as bad.

The trick with Karaoke is to look confident, even if you sound awful.

    Just go and have fun...
