I certainly wouldn't take any more than that amount in cash[msnscared] CC if you need to (use within your own budget mind , I wouldn't want you to have a shock on your return [msneek]) As peeps have said, it does depend on what you like to eat, what you hope to buy. Perhaps keep a closer eye on things in the first part of your trip, then you will be comfortable, towards the end you could spread your wings a bit more.[msnwink]

I would have thought it was a good amount to take and I would expect you to have some left over. I would be worried about taking it as cash though. I would see if you could take ti as travellers cheques they are accepted like cash almost everywhere.

If you are going to take it in cash then I would split it up between your party, even if you just give it in envelopes to the two teenagers to carry (if you feel that they are responsible enough). I would just not like to have all your eggs in one basket. I think if you tried to swap to traveler's cheques or to put it onto a credit card you will now loose out on the exchange rate or through transaction fees. In saying that for what you may be charged it might be worth it for the security/peace of mind. Did you get all of the cash from one source, as they may be able to assist you with any such request.

i would agree with MTP, split the money up and don't carry it all together in one wallett or purse, you can also take so much out each day and keep the rest in the villa safe, we did this with our travellers cheques and cash

Carrie, in the US, most places will take travellers cheques, the same way they will cash. Alternatively, you could leave some cash in a savings account in the uk and use it to pay off your credit card when you return

I always use cash like you I have cashed money when the rates are good, just don't carry it all at the same time you can work out a daily budget and put the rest is a safe place or a safe. Most Management companies loan out safes.

If you do change any more then I would suggest getting some travellers checks with the rest. They are exchanged so readily in 10 years we've never had a problem cashing one (or paying for goods with them) but you have the insurance element so that if you are unfortunate enough to lose them or have them stolen then you will get them replaced unlike cash which you would have to claim on your insurance for and wait for them to reimburse you (less the excess of course).
