i was wondering if it's ok for the children (they love places like Betty's) or if it's a little too stuffy

Mizzy we have not be there for AT but we did go to the Princess Buffet and I have to say I was very disappointed with both the food (very plastic and full of additives) the service (which was sullen) and the lack of characters.
If you are comparing to Bettys I really don't think there is any comparison - just my view[msnwink]
as you know Julie my youngest loves bettys, (just takes after his mum) and this afternoon tea looks like the sort of thing he would love and of course you know me and my weekness for scones with jam and cream [msntongue] there'll be no trouble at all getting me there [msnembarrased]
we have eaten at the grand floridian in the 1900 park fare restaurant before (character brekkie) and that was very good quality food
anyway here's the menu for afternoon tea

P.S When are we going to Bettys again????
On serching the net I found this too Mizzy............
Best Afternoon Tea: The Peabody Orlando (tel. 407/345-4550) hosts teas weekdays from 3 to 4:30pm in the lobby outside Dux, its signature eatery. As you sip your tea and munch on a pastry, you're entertained by the frolicking of the Peabody's resident ducks in a nearby fountain.

Afternoon Tea at The Peabody Orlando... The cuppa that cheers.
From Monday through Friday, Afternoon Tea at The Peabody Orlando is an elegant tradition, a serene oasis where the infusion of tea leaves from China, Sri Lanka and India both relax and refresh the body and spirit.
With all the graciousness of an English country manor house, the traditional Afternoon Tea accompaniments are brought to the table impeccably served. There are cucumber, smoked salmon, egg salad, and seafood salad sandwiches, oven-warm scones, clotted cream, strawberry preserves and miniature pastries, served on bone china with gleaming silverware and crisp linens.
Tallyho!
Hi Mizzy,
We went to the Grand Floridian last year on my wife's birthday as she fancied the "afternoon tea"
I didn't notice many young children there but knowing Disney, I'm sure they are probably welcome?
There's a piano player in the foyer who plays requests for classic songs.
The tea was delicious and had all the "English tea" trademarks ....small sandwiches with the crusts trimmed off....small pastries and luuuurverly cream cakes (or trifle!)all served in the Doulton English Rose tea set.
I can certainly recommend it. Having been born in Harrogate (the original home of Bettys![msntongue]) the Grand Floridian comes a close second [msnwink].
After the tea we had a great stroll along the lake side near the GF hotel and went to the Wedding Chapel where one family were rehearsing for their wedding the next day. It's a fantastic setting and the afternoon tea was great !![msnsmile2]
Last time we tried the afternoon tea at the Ritz Carlton (John Young Parkway) which was also very good.[msntongue]
Kevin
oooh ideas ideas
Julie we're planning on going to the peabody to experience the b-line diner and to see the parade of the ducks so i will have to check out afternoon tea there too, perhaps that will be another cream tea opportunity for me[msntongue]
and Kevin, your right on the ball if it's close to Bettys then we will love it, there's a childrens choice on the menu so they must be welcome
Mizzy
The afternoon tea at GF sounds lovely Mizzy. We have eaten at Citricos at GF and in 4 weeks we are going to Victoria and Alberts for my VERY special birthday[msnwink] but I rather like the idea of afternoontea as well ( not on the same day![msneek])very civilized[msnsmile2]
Whats the b line diner if you don't mind me asking?
hi Liz
it's described as an authentic 50's diner open 24hrs a day and supposedly has desserts to die for[msntongue]
one of it's signature dishes is an ostrich burger which dh is keen to try, i've haven't read a bad review about the place
i wanted to see the parade of the ducks and never got around to it last time so this time i've put my foot down and we will be visiting the diner too because we think it'll be a nice experience for the children, my youngest will love it[msnsmile]
here is one of the reviews that i have read
The B-Line Diner
Housed at the Peabody Orlando Hotel the B-line Grill is a great escape into the 50’s with its chrome bar, open kitchen and delicious menu selections. Open 24 hours it provides exactly what the weary traveler just arriving or the midnight ‘snacker’ needs to indulge. With everything from grilled burgers to seafood pasta to a display case of outrageous desserts the B-Line Grill has something to offer for everyone.
Set in a relaxed 1950’s style café the restaurant while very cozy seemed to able to accommodate large and small groups alike. Some people enjoyed milk shakes while others feasted on steaks and seafood. A real old style c.d. jukebox fills the air with sounds from that decade as you relax in comfortable padded booths or at the giant chrome bar lining the entrance. Drop a quarter in a be transported back to the older days when bobby socks ruled.
The robust menu serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The late night dinner I experienced there was perfect for the mood of my party. Everyone ordered various choices that suited them. I enjoyed and was surprised to see an oriental noodle soup called ‘The Asian "BIG" Bowl‘, while other member of my party dived into the B-lines hearty chicken pot pie. The other two order tasty looking pasta dishes one with 'a catch of day' and one with grilled portabello mushrooms.
The service was prompt and courteous and even suggested a few things from the menu. The waiter was extremely diligent and it was nice to have the extra attention in a casual setting. Everyone was stuffed from the generous portions but having seen the desert display no one could resist I ordered the double chocolate truffle mousse which was exquisite. I could not resist when my friend offered a bite of her Bavarian Fruit Cake which seem to consist of every fruit imaginable wrapped around a white cake with a light cream filling.
will pop a photo on for you too
Mizzy
hope this photo works

We bought my Mum a day at the Grand Floridian Spa for her Christmas/birthday and when she was done she and another lady she met in there went in for Afternoon Tea. She says it was lovely but can't remember there being any kids. She didn't think it was the kind of thing kids would enjoy. But I suppose that depends on the children! It was very quiet and relaxing she said and the food was delicious! Just a perfect end to her spa day.
