    Key Limes in Tesco?

Did the standard Tesco shop this morning and what should I spy on the fruit counter but small round limes! Dont know if they are key limes but was in need of a fix so bought them anyway. Not expensive at 15p each.

Just made Key Lime Pie [msntongue] and I have to say it tastes really good My other half must think so too as he has just licked the bowl clean.....

Now where can I hide it to stop him eating it all before my sister and family get here later?

    Have a good weekend.

VERY EASY KEY LIME PIE RECIPE

200g digestive biscuits (about half a packet) If you want somthing different use choc chip cookies
    75g butter
    4 egg yolks
1 tin condensed milk (I think they are 405g)
    4 limes

Crush the biscuits. I find the easiest way to do this is in a zip lock bag and roll over them with a bottle of wine!
Melt the butter and add the biscuit crumbs.
Press the mixture into a flan dish. I tend to use one thats a bit deeper so that I can push the crumbs up the side as well as across the bottom.
    Put it in the fridge.

As you know its not easy to get real key limes so one trick I have learnt to get a very similar flavour with ordinary limes is to remove the zest from one of them and chop very small. Now juice all four limes and put it all in a mixing bowl.
    Add the condensed milk.
    Add the egg yolks.
Give it a good whip together and then taste. Add more lime juice if necessary. Tesco now sell bottles of lime juice really cheaply which are a good standby.
Bake for 15 minutes at 160c

Originally Key Lime Pies were not cooked but the view now is that as it contains raw egg you should cook for a short time.

    Eat and enjoy [msntongue]

Let me know if you like it!

My eldest son is a big Key Lime Pie fan. When we were in Florida last year we bought a book with loads of different Key Lime Pie recipes in, his Nan is currently working her way through the book making each one so he can decide on his favourite.[msnsmile2]

They would not be key limes as there is not enough to supply florida alone. Most 'key lime pie' you get does not actually use key limes. Key limes are small golf ball sized limes with a very thin peel. Typically yellow/green in color. You can tell a key lime just from the aroma.

Going to ask my mother in law to have a go at this, she's always on the lookout for new recipes.
