Green Taxes, A Problem For Us All?

How long do you think we have got before the so called "GREEN TAX" comes into force?

Does anyone think it may take Florida out of reach?

How will it affect the villa owners who go over to Florida on a regular basis? (to check on your properties etc)

Finally should we be worried. Not just about Global Warming, but exessive costs, so Florida just becomes a destination for the super rich?

Tough questions to answer! You could say we already have some green taxes in place. Diesel used to be so much cheaper than petrol but nobody wanted a diesel car. As soon as diesels became "sexy" the price of diesel was made higher by manipulating the fuel duty, different particulates being the reason given.

How does any government tax aviation fuel to help become more green and still allow more runways to be built?

We already have fuel surcharges on flight tickets, passenger taxes, if there was another tax of £15 per person per trip, will it have much effect?

Villa prices going up due to increased taxes may be on the cards sooner!

I sincerely hope any green taxes don't make Florida out of reach but then again, it was out of reach before and places like the Maldives and other long haul destinations may also suffer.
    Regards, Mark

I have a major problem with this and realise that I may not become Mr Popular with my view but to me the answer is better management of resources rather than fleecing already overstretched taxpayers.
It's the 21st Century for crying out loud why are we still pumping rubbish into the atmosphere, and even if Mr Blair/Brown put a huge tax on travel the effect will be nullified by the growth of the Chinese/Indian/US economies.
Better Management not Higher Taxes---By the way if you vote for me I'll...............

Aviation fuel can not be taxed according to the Chicago convention of 1940 Something. So it will not be a fuel tax. Fuel surcharging is levied by the individual airlines and so that is permissable. I dont know what governments will tax but it won't be fuel.

I wonder if 'green' taxes are really more a case of 'we cannot think of any more stealth taxes at the moment' and if you are 'green' enough to be happy to pay more tax on the pretext of saving the environment then we will go for it.

I agree Jill. If they were really serious about cutting things like car usage, then they would change the way cars are taxed. After all, if like us you have to have a car with a large engine (to pull a trailer for business) that you would hardly use the rest of the time. Then if you were only taxed for useage, it really would stay in the garage the rest of the time...BUT...as we pay for it anyway, a few more pence on a gallon of fuel, is a drop in the ocean. The same as flying, we will pay up, after all, we can't have those planes flying empty can we [msnwink]

If they wanted to do more, all new houses being built could have solar or wind energy fitted and a rain water tank put under the ground for garden watering or toilet flushing (new owners would pay, but reap the benifits with cheap services in the future)and recyling could be made easier too, not because of so called global warming, but because we only have so much space to bury all this rubbish

if the govenment is so bothered about global warming and they want to save the world why on earth dont they get all the other countries to join in first because we are certainly not the worst offenders in ruining the atmosphere what is the point in taxing us everyone else will be laughing up their sleeves at us pat
