Its well worth the hike, and you can go as fast or slow as you like so they can take their time. There is no time limit to being on the Island (as long as you catch the last ferry back![msnwink])
The audio is a must, really brings the place to life, especially here some of the old inhabitants.[msnsmile]

I've had the night trip recommended but i didn't have the bottle as it is supposed to be quite spooky.
When your parents are wandering around the older fisherman's area there is a building which houses old fairground machines-with the wind up handles etc-if they're interested get them to wander round this-it's good fun-
Oh and watch out for the bush man!

It's a good idea to book upfront as sometimes the tickets are sold out days in advance. We went for a private company which included sailing to and exploring Alcatraz, a trip to the Golden Gate Bridge also in a boat and a walking tour of China town. It was a really good day and night out although not particularly cheap it was fab. We spent about 5 days in all in SF and enjoyed it although could have been shining that fabulous Florida sun though!

managed to get booked, it was a bit tricky as you book, pay and then you have to print off a e.ticket which will be available in 72hours

my parents are a bit unsure of all this technology but i have assured them they have the tickets

my father holds a blue badge and has mobility problems but have checked it all out and there is a way for getting him up that hill

    thanks everyone

We went in 2001 with my Dad who has breathing problems walking up hills but there was an opened back sort of Landrover that transported people with mobility problems up and down the very steep hill. (there were a lot of fit and healthy people trying to cadge a lift as well.) He took great pleasure in waving as he flew past the rest of us who were strugglig up by foot.I'm fairly sure it meets every ferry that comes in.It is well worth the walk up though.
