Has anyone heard when we are likely to be able to get biometric passports here? We are not ablt to go until 2008[msnsad] but my husband is going to need a new passport before we go. We are hoping that we can get him a biometric passport because otherwise I think he will need a visa. Is that right?
No I don't think you will need a visa as long as your passport is machine readable. So don't worry. Some biometric passports are now coming out, but I have been informed untill they can clear up early glitches in the system they will send out both kinds.

I thought if you went on a machine readable passport, as oppossed to a biometric one, it had to be issued before 26/10/05.

Some passports issued now are the biometric type so best to check out with the passport people whether they all are now or not - some people got them and some people didn't.
You can get up to 9 months 'credit' for your old passport if you apply for a new one early, ie it would be valid for 10 years and 9 months if you had that long on it.

That was delayed to this October. Don't be surprised if it gets put back again.
Have just been on the embassy website and found out some more info. Don't know why I didn't think of that before and sorry for wasting your time[msnembarrased] It says that for passports issued on or after that date they need to be machine readable and have a digital photograph. That is integrated into the page and not stuck on (that makes sense)
If it helps I've just renewed for myself and Mrs Albert and they both came back biometric.
Hi same here albert the frog we sent off our passports last week and were delivered by courier yesterday,and we also have the biometric passports,handy for next time we go to florida,also had the extra 7 months on them that we had left,if i was you i would renew asap before the price rise[msncool]

I got my passport renewed last week to prempt the price rise as it didn't runout until March. My new passport is biometric and runs until March 2017
