I know it is a bit random for a Sunday morning but does anyone have any experience or knowledge of WiMax?

WIMAX: WORLDWIDE INTEROPERABILITY FOR MICROWAVE ACCESS
You are probably even more confused now sorry! It directed at the techies out there really.
It is a serious question and nothing to do with Microwave ovens before the jokes start

Basically same as wifi hotspots but greater coverage from the base stations. It will be 802.16e (patented to Nortel)
"Nortel's product achieved ranges close to 20km from the base station to the outdoor end-user equipment and 15km to the indoor solution. This exceeded our expectations. And being such a small company, we really appreciate the relationship we've established with Nortel."
Thanks for your help Bouncey. I wish it really was that simple it would make my life a lot easier. I have researched the IEEE already and know about the standard and the last mile theory etc but I need real technical stuff to write an article around 4000 words, I have half of that at the mo and I am strugling to come up with iteresting facts to fill the rest of it, I am aiming towards diagrams now, I am sooo bored with it!
Roll on next Saturday when I fly to Florida and leave it all behind![clap]

I don't know much about Wimax, but it was mentioned in the Sunday Times today in relation to an article about xMax - a competing technology that is apparently causing a bit of a stir and the company are about to float on the AIM, xgtecnology. I don't know if it will help your article, but apparently the role out costs across America would be $15 million, rather than $3 billion for Wimax.
Sorry if it doesn't help.
