I pay the tax, i pay the insurance around $1,500 for 2 vehicals each year (and i use Tower Hill they were a lot cheaper than Geico and Progressive)
To hire a car in Florida is cheap, but to insure a car through hire companys is expensive. If you are in Florida a lot then it is cheaper in the long run to buy a car and leave it in the garage whilst your not here.

The problem for residents, as outlined above, is simply getting good insurance cover at a reasonable price. I personally wouldn't drive a car without at least $1million liability.
It might be expensive to insure through USA rental sites. However as a tourist you can rent a car from this site with full insurance(SLI/CDW/UMP) etc for around $200 a week. (and there are cheaper methods if you stay long periods). I spent 18 weeks in Florida last year in six trips, and for a Compact or bigger spent under US$3,000.
You are a resident. Try and get decent insurance as a non-resident for any reasonable price, then consider depreciation, repairs, tax, loss of interest on capital/HP charges. Are you saying you can run a car for that sort money($3,000) in a year? What would be reasonable? $5,000 minimum I would say.
Then there is the cost of getting to and from the airport 12 times.
I maintain it is certainly not "cheaper in the long run to buy a car and leave it in the garage whilst your not here." With the very cheap prices available from UK, not even if you were on a six month stay.
And anyway who wants the hassle of owning, when the alternative is so trouble free.

Hey, all i want to do is sell my car. I am getting upset that you say who wants the hassle of owning, when the alternative is so trouble free.
That is your opinion, and you now have a place in a different area to put your views.
