Maybe the owner has no mortgage on the property and some of those houses in Lindfields are on the small size so it might be enough money for that particular owner to keep it trundling on. Also he probably has the approach it's better to have SOME money coming in than an empty house, makes sense. It's ok asking $1500 a week if you're getting it. If you're not, then surely take what you can? I wouldn't worry, I've rented nice places even cheaper than this in the past and it's been fine for us.

In actual fact, we need to correct a popular fallacy here that it's better to get some money rather than have a home empty. It costs more money to have guests staying than it does to keep a Florida home empty as they use electricity, water, gas, etc and not to mention wear and tear. At £577 for two weeks (not one in this instance), the owner's going to be out of pocket big time.

I can't see how anyone could pay all the expenses of owning a Florida home on £288.50 a week let alone pay for all the taxes, insurance, etc and afford to keep the place in top condition. I certainly couldn't.

Even without my mortgage on my 3 bed I would not be able to keep the house up to the standard I expect at those kind of rates. If I did not have a mortgage then I'd naturally be expecting a good return on my investment otherwise I'd have put the money in a high interest savings account (or better investment) and taken out a mortgage on my villas.

I totally agree with all Blottie has said. The "some money is better than none" argument is total rubbish as it's just not true and is something some guests choose to believe but all owners know is not true.

Agreed it costs more money to have guests stay in a home than have it empty, but I can't think of any normal home costing $400 a week in utilities. So any money over would be applied to other bills no and that's when the rule applies that a house is better occupied than empty.

It's not just bills though - we have sales tax to pay on bookings, cleans to pay for when the guest leaves, wear and tear on the house and numerous other things you have not allowed for.

I agree with everyone. The bottom line is, any owner accepting such low weekly rates on a regular basis will not be covering costs...........mortgage or no mortgage. Corners will be cut and usually it is with house upkeep!! You generally get what you pay for, unless you are really lucky [msnoo]

As a 3 bed owner in Lindfields I am shocked at the price you’ve paid. As others have said it would be impossible to maintain a decent home for £288.50 per week and in reality the villa owner will get nowhere near £577 for 2 weeks, as the booking agent (Website) and accommodation supplier (I guess that’s the Management Company) take their cut.

I estimate the base running cost for a two week booking at £390 and this excludes Sales and Tourist tax, pool heat, mortgage and any maintenance /repair costs.

In my opinion the home you choose can make or break a holiday and can change from being great value accommodation into an expensive mistake. I would advise contacting your booking agent and asking a lot of questions. Can the pool be heated and the cost. Also what is provided in the villa and are there any additional fees on arrival.

In answer to your question about Lindfields, I think it’s great. It’s around 5 miles to Disney and a well established community. The homes are generally spacious and along tree lined streets. You certainly won’t be disappointed in the location

I would never book through a travel agent but only direct through the owners[msnwink]

I had to say this but cheap not always good, you get what you pay for as they say[msnwink]

We stayed on this communtiy almost 10 years ago in Feb and it was at least that price for 1 week let alone two[msneek]

Do a lot of asking also can you see the villa you will be staying in or can you see a picture or one similair ,For this price I would see problems ahead and be a shame to spoil your holiday as next year is a longway of if you only go once a year .
Just think everyone takes a piece of the cake and you are left picking the pieces up at the end .We have gone for cheap holiday in the past and never again you get what you pay for.

After reading this thread I really feel sorry for Anita. Now that her holiday is booked there isnt probably a lot that she can do. I sincerely hope that the villa she has booked turns out to be ok.

Having said that, I also worry for the owner of the villa concerned, it is only a matter of time surely, before they will lose their dream.
